Laboratory Filter Paper
Choose thickness, flow grade and ash content around the method. Different grades are not interchangeable.

A glass-fibre disc forms a porous network of intersecting fibres with appreciable depth. Particles can be captured within that network, supporting prefiltration or method-defined particle collection. Its retention mechanism and rating convention differ from those of a microporous membrane. Binder content, fibre release and blank mass matter particularly for gravimetry, trace analysis and downstream filtrate quality.
| Selection factor | What to compare |
|---|---|
| Binder | Bound and binder-free structures differ in strength, background and response to thermal treatment. |
| Media grade | Thickness and fibre arrangement affect flow, capacity and breakthrough; compare equivalent test methods. |
| Subsequent analysis | Weighing, extraction and microscopy impose different background requirements. |

Build differential pressure steadily and record volume and resistance for heavily loaded samples.
Condition and store discs as the method requires, treating blanks identically.
Not automatically; depth retention depends on challenge particles and test conditions.
Targets may be particle-associated or adsorb to the medium, so compare recovery before and after treatment.
