CHEMICAL & WATER

Ultrapure Water

Define particle control, material release and cleanliness for each system location.

Process & filtration objectives

An ultrapure-water system combines treatment units with different functions. Particle filtration addresses suspended contamination; ions, dissolved organics and gases require their own treatment and monitoring. Resistivity alone does not describe every cleanliness attribute.

After polishing, water still contacts storage vessels, circulation piping and use points. Low-background materials, clean assembly and recovery after replacement are important parts of evaluating final particle control.

Typical process pathway

  1. 01

    Pretreatment interface

Use source-water and existing-treatment records to manage the suspended load reaching downstream equipment.

  2. 02

    Polishing interface

Distinguish ion treatment and other purification from particle control, including particles shed by treatment media.

  3. 03

    Circulating distribution

Observe changes after tank, valve or pipe maintenance and retain traceable information for individual use points.

  4. 04

    Point-of-use control

Assess particles and material background near actual use, recording recovery following installation of a new assembly.

This is a typical task pathway. Confirm sequence, equipment and operating conditions for the project.

Application questions

Does high resistivity mean particle-free water?

No. Resistivity describes electrical conductivity-related behavior; it does not replace particle or organic-contamination measurements.

Can a terminal filter compensate for every upstream problem?

No. Persistent contamination or pipe problems require investigation at their source. Terminal filtration addresses only its defined design duty.
